报告题目:High-mass star formation at high-resolution: recent progresses and challenges

报告摘要:

In recent years, high-resolution observations of high-mass star formation regions have revealed lines of evidence that challenge current star formation theory. I will review these surprising observational results and discuss how further, systematic observing campaigns are designed to put more stringent constraints on the initial conditions of high-mass star formation across our Galaxy. (If time permits, I will show, practically, how both theorists and observers can benefit from ALMA services, including the use of archival data and simulated observations.)

报告人简介:

Ke Wang is a tenure track Assistant Professor at the Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics, Peking University (KIAA-PKU). His main research interest is high-mass star formation. He is an expert in submillimeter interferometry and has served in the European ALMA Regional Center and the Submillimeter Array (SMA) operations team for more than 5 years.

He received his PhD degree in astrophysics from Peking University in 2012. Majority of his PhD study was carried out at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA) during a SMA pre-doctoral fellowship. In 2011, he accepted a research grant of the European Commission and moved to the Kapteyn Astronomical Institute in the Netherlands for a postdoctoral fellowship. He joined the European Southern Observatory (ESO) headquartered in Germany in 2012 as an ESO fellow and became an associate in 2015. In 2018, he moved back to PKU and joined KIAA.
